Cheers. There really is ‘a long way to go’. I thought about starting later – and the only bit I really know is the end, the last week or so, which I have as an extract somewhere, but I got hold of the journals and I’m quietly reading them to myself from the beginning, when they arrived in the antarctic in January 1911, and the beginning of the journey back seemed like the most sensible place to start reading it out loud.
I like reading aloud anyway – and I think that this is the kind of thing people a bit like me (as in anyone who reads this stuff, really) might recall around this time as it’s in the news, and think about reading it but not find it (although the journals are easy to get hold of).
Enjoying this series. Sooner you than me though.
