Okay, 7836 songs in music library, what are the chances of starting off with something big and bold and wonderfully familiar? It’s….
The Streets – Hotel Expressionism mp3
Which I may never have listened to before. I like the obvious one and I’m not at all sure about things more generally here. To be honest I take against a lot of rap and hiphop (I’m on very very unsure ground about what to even call this) . And this is from the ‘it’s so hard being famous’ album which is so very unendearing dear at the best of times. Why is it all right to start singing songs about how badly behaved you can be when you’re a badly behaver rock star? ‘Man I’m not some crank vandal’. Yes Michael.
I can sit back and imagine for a moment how I would have felt if ‘the milkman of human kindness’ or ‘last night I dreamt…’ or even ‘might be stars’ had popped up and tell myself that it’s good that a song which I have so little to say about is there instead.
A story? I’ve never trashed a hotel room but we trashed the showers at a campsite in righteous and justified indignation once. We went on holiday for a week, aged 17, but ran out of money after three days. They wouldn’t refund us any of our fee for the week even though we were leaving, which we were relying on for getting through that fourth day before someone’s dad could pick us up in the evening, so we took it out on the showerheads instead. Just some crank vandals, really.
